He received his B.A. in philosophy and history (double major) from UCLA, his J.D. from Northwestern University and his M.S.W. from USC.
Areas of focus include individual therapy, trauma, attachment, couples counseling, mediation/conflict resolution, and family systems. James also specializes in bodymapping (conducting and reading). Prior to establishing Santa Monica Mental Health Associates, James was a clinical counselor at the USC Center for Work and Family Life.
I use an integrative model that incorporates Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy (primarily with couples), and Bodynamic Developmental Psychology. Special attention is given to acknowledging existing somatic resources and building a bridge between a person's inherent capacity for healing and emergent areas of growth.
